The Philippines

In the Philippines we are currently sending 70 students to school. These girls come from squatter communities in the Southern Philippines. All come from families that fall far below the poverty threshold.

The girls range in age from nursery school to Grade 4. Each year we will add an additional class of students.

It only costs $200 per year to send a girl to school.

What Does Sponsorship Provide?

  •  School fees. Registration costs, mandatory PTA fees, exam fees, and graduation expenses all make public school attendance challenging for the most impoverished families.
  • Food assistance. These girls are malnourished; the food they get at school may be their only meal for the day.
  • School suppliesincluding books are provided.
  • Uniforms are required at all schools. Proper shoes and a school uniform helps build the children's self-worth.
  • Transportation is necessary because most of the girls live a minimum of 5 kilometers from school.
  • Parent education - Classes are provided by local social workers in parenting, income generation, health and nutrition, and abuse prevention.
  • Counseling is available for parents or children with local psychologists, social workers, priests, or pastors.

Other donations will provide:

Improvements and upkeep for the building and grounds of Obod-Obod Christian Learning center which provides education for nursery and Kinder 1 students.

Equipment and educational materials.

Continuing education for the teachers.

 Parents Give Back!

Attendance. Parents promise to get their children to school on time every day, if possible.

Volunteering. The parents agree to donate at least 4-12 hours a month to help at the school in a variety of ways.
